History of Rhinestones

Rhinestones are essentially fake diamonds made from rock crystal, glass, or acrylic. The name “Rhine” stones comes from the origin of the first stones, the river Rhine. The rhinestones were rock crystals gathered from the river. The rhinestones were used for costumes, apparel, and jewelry, and carried into the twentieth century with a lot of popularity in the 1960s and 1970s.
Today rhinestones are commonly used to inlay items like cell phones, clothing, MP3 players, and shoes. Rhinestone earrings and other accessories are also common.
